My Plan and Timeline
I have chosen this topic for my Student Research Project which will be done over the next 6 weeks. This experiment will be conducted to find out how different temperatures affect the chemical reaction of enzymes in hydrogen peroxide. I came up with this experiment because we are doing a Biology topic in class at the moment, and it is seems very interesting, so I decided that my SRP will be on a topic related to Biology. My teacher has approved this topic and I have hypothesised that the higher the temperature, the enzyme will become less effective. The research will be done through internet and books. The equipment that I will be requiring for this experiment will be potatoes, test tubes, beakers, thermometer, ice, stop watch and hydrogen peroxide. The independent variable will be the temperature of the potato and the dependant will be the reaction time. In this experiment, the potatoes will be blended and placed into some test tubes. Then some beakers and test tubes will be taken and water will be put in the beakers and hydrogen peroxide in the test tubes. The temperature of the beakers will be changed using ice and then each test tube will be placed into different beakers. The height of the reaction will be recorded using a ruler after 5 minutes. This is the timeline of my experiment which will be done over the next 6 weeks:-
- On 28th and 29th February 2015 , I decided my topic and wrote my plan
- On 1st March 2015, I asked my teacher about it and he approved my topic
- On 2nd March 2015, I started doing some research on this topic, and see whether this experiment will be safe and will I be able to finish it in time
- On 4th March 2015, I constructed my basic website and finished writing my plan and my timeline for the experiment
- On 6th and 7th March 2015, I will do some research on my topic through internet and books
- On 9th March 2015, I will gather all the information and write the background of the experiment and explain any terminology used
- On 12th March 2015, I will write my aim and hypothesis of the experiment
- On 15th March 2015, I will write all the equipment I need and research how much it costs
- On 18th March 2015, I will buy all the required equipment, it will be purchased from Bunnings Warehouse, Coles/Woolworths and The Reject Shop
- On 21th March 2015, I will write down the risk assessment include the precautions and what if the accident occur
- On 23rd to 25th March 2015, I will construct a method and see whether I have bought all the equipment required
- On 26th March 2015, if I haven’t bought all the equipment required then I will buy the ones that I forgot to buy before
- On 30th March 2015, I will do my experiment, record the results using stopwatch
- On 3rd April 2015, I will repeat my experiment to get reliable results
- On 6th April 2015, I will repeat my experiment again to get reliable results
- On 9th April 2015, I will put my results in a table and draw graphs and take the average of all the results I have got
- On 12th to 14th April 2015, I will write my analysis, discussion and conclusion. This will include the problem occurred, validity, reliability and discuss the results I got after doing the experiment
- On 16th April 2015, I will write my abstract, which will summarise my whole experiment
- On 17th April 2015, I will write my references
- On 18th April 2015, I will finish my website and add some pictures to it
